Because we accept judges from all levels of the interactive media industry and other related fields, it truly is a panel of your piers. These are people that live and work in the industry on a daily basis. No group "think tanks" here... just real creative and qualified people. In addition, end-users and non-designers are also part of the judges panel. This offers a unique perspective not found at any other awards competition. We feel that solutions should be effective... not just fun to look at. Think of it like your own personal focus group!

JUDGING CRITERIA
Judges look for the best blend between creativity and functionality. Each entry will be judged on the following:

  1. Solution creativity and originality
  2. Overall graphic design / appearance / user experience
  3. Communication of message
  4. Technical merit
  5. Effectiveness of solution
Judges may award a project a Gold, Silver Bronze or Honorable Mention distinction. Awards will be given for each category and there may be multiple winners in each category. Only Gold level winners are eligible for the "Best of Show", "Best of Category", and other special awards. There will be one winner for the "Best of Show" and other special awards of distinction. There will be one winner per category for the "Best of Category" award.



Andrew Crow
Senior experience designer, trainer, and speaker - Adaptive Path

Andrew has a passion for developing innovative design solutions for customers' needs.

Initially a print and web designer, Andrew moved into information architecture and interaction design to promote holistic user experiences to corporate clients. Andrew has over 13 years of design, technical, and strategic experience in the technology industry.

Continually obsessed with the latest technologies in the mobile and gaming space, Andrew advises on the design of Windows Mobile and iPhone applications, social networking, and collaboration software. He is an advocate of ubiquitous computing, and approaches projects with a desire to ensure that the experience of the device fits into the overall product strategy.



Anthony "Ant" Scholte

Anthony "Ant" Scholte is the founding director of TheAntsNest.com, a mulit-disaplined online creative agency. TheAntsNest.com specializes in Graphic Design, Website Design, Photography, Illustration, Graffiti & Recruitment for the advertising & design industry.

Matte Elsbernd
Founder - The Firm List
With more than a decade of experience building websites, Matte Elsbernd has accepted his "grandfather" role and started wearing plenty of argyle and high-waisted pants. In between snooping on his neighbors, he has played the roles of web designer, web developer, information architect, web producer and creative director for various agencies and startups. After complaining about "kids these days" he also has built a series of spare time projects, such as The Firm

List - the largest guide to web design firms from around the world. Elsbernd has been a judge for the New Hampshire Internet Awards and was a finalist in the first New England Web Design (NEWD) Awards. He can also be seen on a park bench near you feeding the pigeons.



Flavio Masson
New Media Director and Co-founder of 10012
Brazilian-born Flavio Masson is the New Media Director and Co-founder of 10012, LLC (10012.com), a New York City based multicultural, multilingual collaborative specialized in all aspects of marketing communications where he is responsible for the concept, design and production overview of all interactive projects for clients such as AARP, Bravo TV, The Golf Channel and Showtime.

Previously, Flavio worked as an Art Director at Latin Force where he conceived and developed online campaigns for clients such as JPMorgan Chase, Kraft Foods and Nike. Prior to that, as an Art Director at Small World Media, Flavio designed and overviewed the production and marketing of large-scale database-driven web sites in Latin America, Europe and Asia. Also a music composer and producer, Flavio has created commercial and documentary soundtracks for clients such as Gordon's Gin and AARP. His awards for creative excellence include a Webby and an Addy (Voices of Civil Rights Bus Tour Website, AARP), Latino Marketing Awards/Best Banner Campaign (Comida Kraft.com, Kraft Foods) and a Cine Golden Eagle (Dorothy Height Documentary Soundtrack, AARP).



Nadine Wallace
Senor Vice President, Creative Services – Medical Knowledge Group

Nadine Wallace is Senior Vice President, Creative Services for the Medical Knowledge Group (MKG). She has more than 14 years experience in art direction, project management, and print and multimedia production, working within the healthcare industry across a variety of therapeutic areas. Additionally, she has broad experience creating print and interactive Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.

Nadine is responsible for the creative direction and development of all print and multimedia for the Medical Knowledge Group companies. MKG is a New York City–based company comprised of several best-in-class organizations dedicated to addressing the unmet educational needs of physicians and other healthcare professionals.
The company’s versatile approach to medical communication enables MKG to reach a wide range of audiences utilizing print, multimedia, Web, 3D animation, and video production.

Nadine received her bachelor of Fine Arts degree with honors from Pratt Institute in New York. She has continued her education, obtaining certificates in multimedia and interactive design, at The Cooper Union and the School of Visual Arts



Ann Connell

Senior Art Director - Outside Source Design
Ann has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana with a specialization in graphic design. She has nine years of experience in the design industry. Ann currently works for Outside Source Design as a senior art director. Outside Source Design partners with their clients to provide creative visual solutions in the areas of print, multimedia, web, 3D animation, and video production.


Angela Costanzi

Director/Creative Services, Movéo Integrated Branding

As Director/Creative Services for Movéo Integrated Branding, a hybrid brand consultancy and integrated communications agency, Ms. Costanzi oversees all creative components of client engagements, including concept development, design, and execution of both offline and online advertising campaigns.

Angela has over sixteen years of experience building brands and managing creative personnel. Key account experience includes: Coca-Cola, Sears, Payless Shoes, Baxter, Abbott Laboratories, Siemens, Molex, Littelfuse, CareerBuilder.com, USRobotics, Lincoln International, StonePeak Ceramics.

She holds a B.A. in Advertising from Columbia College, Chicago.



Bill Green
Principal & Creative Director - Radium Interactive
Bill Green is the Principal & Creative Director of Radium Interactive, a web design firm focused on strategic planning, branding and user experience development. Prior to forming Radium Interactive, Bill held Senior Creative Positions with Digitas, Gap Inc. and Resource Interactive.

In his twelve years of new media design, Bill has worked on projects for Apple, Gap, National Geographic, Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Limited, Hewlett-Packard, SonyStyle, Charles Schwab, Burton Snowboards, Frigidaire and AARP.

Bill received his Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Industrial Design from the Columbus College of Art & Design. He is currently an active member of the AIGA Washington, D.C. chapter.



Peter Bray

Managing Director - Clear Blue Day


Peter has been a judge at numerous interactive awards, and his agency Clear Blue Day recently won Australia's main awards in the Best Interactive Advertising and Marketing section, as well as Best Retail site.

Peter was also named by The Industry Standard Magazine in 2001 as an online thought leader, and was recently named by B and T Magazine as one of the 40 most influential people in the digital industry.

In addition to this, he is the President (NSW) of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association

Jon Sharpe is the Creative Director for Play, an interactive advertising agency that started in January 2005.

Jon studied English at King's College London and Education at Cambridge University before beginning his career in interactive advertising in the mid-90s. After cutting his teeth conceiving interactive campaigns for brands including Virgin and United International Pictures, Jon joined Agency.com in 1999 where he was appointed Director of Digital Marketing.

Jon went on to found the London office of Itraffic in 2001 where he spent four years delivering award winning campaigns for brands including British Airways, Heineken, Wanadoo and NSPCC. In 2005, Jon co-founded Play in conjunction with M&C Saatchi and former Itraffic colleagues Matt Gorzkowski and Ethan Segal. Jon likes curries.


Steven Nasi
Creative Director - Agency.com

Steve is a Creative Director at Agency.com, leading the digital creative for British Airways and Delmonte Foods. 

Steve joined Agency.com from Ogilvy, New York, where he was Partner, Associate Creative Director for more than five years on brands such as AT&T Wireless, IBM, SAP, Time Warner Cable, DHL and Sprite.  You might remember spokesdoll Miles Thirst, which Steve helped create online prior to any appearances in traditional media. A series of videos featured Thirst opining on reality TV, instant celebrity and more. The Thirst work represented Ogilvy's first substantial foray into viral advertising. A partnership with MTV.com gave Thirst editorial credibility, as Nasi used the voice of Thirst to write a weekly series of music video reviews.

Prior to Ogilvy, Steve worked at Tribal DDB on brands such as Bestbuy.com and at Andersen & Lembke (SF) and Saatchi’s Darwin unit. Steve’s work has won man industry awards, including the Clio, the One Show, PRINT magazine, Cannes, Communication Arts, ad:tech awards.  

Steve studied anthropology at Columbia University, which comes in handy in this line of work.  



Rommil Santiago
Web Designer
- Concordia University, MontrealRommil has been designing and developing websites since 1999. Over the years, he has freelanced for many Montreal design firms, and co-founded; a design company, an online- magazine, and Montreal's first-ever design-marathon. Specializing in accessible, and standards-compliant design, he has been invited to judge several major web-awards and is an editor for dmoz.org. Today, he is the lead designer of Concordia University's central web group.

In addition to his web design training, Rommil holds a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University, and is a very experienced photographer.



David Clarke
Sr. Vice President - BGT Partners

Mr. Clarke is Managing Partner at one of Florida's premier online consultancies. He is responsible for managing the strategic design and development of technology-driven solutions for clients and the operational management of the firm. Mr. Clarke guides large clients through design, technical and strategic initiatives and has served in a leadership role in the development and execution of multi-faceted solutions supporting complex business and brand models.

As Managing Partner, he continues to lead BGT's largest engagements, providing strategic direction, focusing on market and user intelligence, business design, and brand strategy for the development of digital solutions across all mediums and industries. Mr. Clarke leads technology and interactive marketing initiatives for organizations such as Marriott, Sony, Disney, FedEx and Visa International. During his tenure, he has managed multiple projects spanning solutions such as CRM, Online Brand Strategy and Loyalty, and Content Management.



Normand Miron

Interactive/Creative Director

Normand is an Interactive Creative Director who works in Montreal for Marketel, the second largest ad agency in Quebec. Prior to that position, he was also Interactive Creative Director at Palm Arnold, also located in Montreal.

Normand has spent a number of years working on nationale interactive accounts such as Volkswagen, Budweiser, Air Canada, Johnson & Johnson, Rogers Wireless and Maybelline New York. Over the last 3-4 years, Normand has received over 50 awards from advertising competitions around the world, most notably the New York Festival, London International Awards, AME Awards, Applied Arts Design & Advertising Annual and the Digital Marketing Awards.



Murat Kalaora
Founding Partner / Managing Director

Murat Kalaora is the founding partner & managing director of MagiClick Digital Solutions (www.MagiClick.com) & MagiClick Digital Solutions (www.MagiClickGames.com). The 40-person interactive agency, based in Istanbul, MagiClick is one of the most successful agencies in the region and the largest in Turkey.

In the past 10 years Murat has led many technology and interactive marketing projects for multinational companies including Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Bayer, Citibank, Dexia, Efes Pilsen, Fortis, GlaxoSmithKline, HSBC Bank, Intel, JVC, McDonald's, Novo Nordisk, Siemens, Unilever, Whirlpool as well as regional corporations like Akbank, AI Pharma, Aris, Bilim, Borusan, Finansbank, Otokar, Yapi Kredi & Vestel.

Murat has regularly been invited as a judge & speaker in regional interactive marketing competitions as well as events such as Marketing Istanbul Conference & Istanbul TIME Forum.

Lance Ford
Creative Director - aijalon

Lance currently serves as the Creative Director for aijalon, a web-centric design firm specializing in brand development, graphic design, web technology, and marketing strategy. In helping to establish aijalon as a creative firm, Lance has received national and international recognition for his work including: ADDYs, Summit Creative Awards, Horizon Awards, Webby Awards, GDUSA American Graphic Design Awards, regional AMA (American Marketing Association) and AIGA awards, as well as having work published in the book series¹ American Corporate Identity and Creativity.

While at aijalon Lance has worked with local, national, and international clients including the Nebraska State Education Association, YMCA, The National Arbor Day Foundation, Garner Industries, University of Nebraska Track & Field Department, and Youth with a Mission Taiwan. Lance is a member of the Lincoln Federation of Advertising and is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Nebraska where he teaches an advanced graphic design course.



Mike Sauce

Founder, Horizon Interactive Awards
Principal - Saucepan Creative
Mike has over 12 years multi-media project management and development experience producing and designing web sites, CD-ROMs, DVDs, webcasting and media streaming. He has developed interactive media solutions for sales, marketing, training, business to business, direct to consumer and publishing applications. He has been responsible for project management, creative direction, programming and design. Some of his clients include: Clear Channel Entertainment, The Indianapolis Colts, The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Carrier Corporation, and Eli Lilly and Company. He has a degree in Communications (Corporate Media), from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and has attended Indiana University's Herron School of Art.

Mike founded the Horizon Interactive Awards in 2001 with input from a colaborative group of designers and developers of interactive media. The competition allows him to unite his passion for helping small businesses with his love for electronic art and digital business solutions.



David Smith

Principal, Innovative Marketing Resource
Mr. Smith is Principal of Innovative Marketing Resource, a business consulting firm specializing in entrepreneurial ventures. His background includes over 20 years of senior marketing management experience that included directing the new ventures departments for "Fortune 500" companies such as Texize and Dow Brands. He directed product development, packaging design, creative and market introduction of several successful new products including VIVID* All Fabric Bleach and YES* Liquid Laundry Detergent in the consumer packaged goods industry. He has a B.A. degree in Economics from Grove City College, Grove City, Pennsylvania.

J. Kelly McKnight
President / CEO, VIA Internet Studio
As president/ceo of VIA Internet Studio, Kelly brings over 25 years of
marketing and advertising savvy to every web project.

Started in 1996, VIA has built over 300 websites and currently hosts and maintains 100 sites on its own servers. Clients include everything from banks to builders…manufacturing to marketing firms…retailers to law firms. With clients on both coasts, Kelly has done a wide range of projects including ecommerce, Intranet, database solutions for its clients.

Over his career, Kelly has created successful advertising campaigns
for accounts like American Airlines, Bolla Wines, Korbel Champagne,
Greyhound, Proctor & Gamble, AT&T, Wendy’s, American Airlines,
Kool Cigatettes, and Anheuser Busch.
